Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure

The main goal of this training program is to give users the knowledge and skills so that they can effectively perform their job as a Microsoft Certified Windows 2000 Administrator.

Introduction

In this module we will cover the basic fundamental concepts of networking. By the end of this module you will have an understanding of networking, why there is a need for networking and what the benefits of using a network are.


Network Services Overview

In this module we will introduce you to the network services that are specific to the Windows 2000/XP Operating system.


TCP-IP Basics

In this module, we will look at the basics of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, the industry-standard suite of protocols designed for large-scale internetworks.


IP Routing

In this module, we will look at the basic concepts of IP Routing. At the end of this module you will understand how IP Data is routed on a TCP/IP network and how routing tables are used to determine the best path for data to travel through a network.


Introducing NWLink

In this module we will look at NWlink the protocol developed by Microsoft to allow Windows computers to communicate with Novell NetWare Servers.


Monitoring Network Activity

In this module we look at how to analyze network performance using the Network Monitor Tool. At the end of this module you should know how to install the network monitor tool and how to use the network monitor tool to analyze network performance.


WINS

In this module we will introduce you to WINS, the Windows Internet Naming Service. We will cover the NetBIOS protocol and namespace and the different types of NetBIOS name resolution. We will also cover the WINS name resolution process.


Intro to DHCP

In this module we will cover why there is a need to use the DHCP service on a TCP/IP network. You will be familiar with the four phases of DHCP Assignment and we will also look at some DHCP implementation issues.


Network Host Names

In this module, we will look at Network Host Names and how they are used in the Name resolution process. We will cover the different methods that Windows 2000/XP can use for Name Resolution and what a HOSTS file is and how it is used.


Intro to DNS

In this module we will cover the fundamental concepts of the Domain Name System and how it is used to resolve host names on a local or wide area network.
